History

In 1918, Quandt's Foodservice Distributors, Inc. started as a fish market in Amsterdam, New York. Over the years, the fresh fish market developed into a grocery store that served the Amsterdam community from its Guy Park Avenue location. Forty years after its original opening, Quandt’s reached for an even larger customer base and went wholesale in 1958. Most of our original customers were local shoppers, bakers and Thruway restaurants.

Throughout our over forty years as a wholesale distributor, however, our increase in customers has allowed us to expand our business and extend into other geographical areas. In 1999, we added on 30,000 square feet of freezer and cooler space to our facility on Quist Road in order to accommodate our rapidly growing constituency. From multi-unit school systems to elite white-tablecloth restaurants, from the region’s largest supermarket chain to the North Country’s most tranquil summer camps, there is no limit to the type of customer that Quandt’s commits to serve.

Times may have changed since 1918, but our original goals and business philosophies have not. For eighty-seven years, we have consistently sought to achieve the highest level of customer satisfaction. This achievement has been fulfilled time and again because of our dedicated employees. We have all adopted a spirit of family at Quandt’s, a spirit that has fostered excellent relationships with our customers. Now in 2006, we are proud to be one of the largest independent food distributors in Upstate New York. We are also pleased to serve our customers with the finest products in the foodservice industry and look forward to meeting your specific customer needs.
